Star Academy is excited to be offering International Latin Dance Sport and Traditional Chinese Dance as part of our school curriculum.  Star Academy Principal Kristy Burns and Owner/Director Jenna Maiolo are excited to offer  students the opportunity to broaden their dance experience and expose them to new styles. 

 

Chinese traditional dance is a beautiful and expressive art form that blends grace, strength, and cultural storytelling. We are excited to introduce Janice Wong to the Star Academy team who will be heading the Chinese Dance Department.  Janice who has 15 years of classical ballet experience and 7 years of training in Chinese traditional dance, will bring a unique approach that incorporates ballet techniques while staying true to the rich heritage of Chinese dance. Having competed and performed internationally, Janice is passionate about sharing this vibrant style with dancers of all levels. In her classes, students will explore fundamental techniques, work on choreography, and have fun with props like fans and ribbons, making each lesson both engaging and culturally enriching  

 

 Jacopo Calabresi, who will be heading up the Latin Dancesport stream at Star Academy, began his dance journey at the age of 13 and went on to achieve the prestigious A class level.  Jacopo follows the ProAM teaching method allowing him to guide students of all levels and has a wealth of knowledge and experience teaching students across Italy and Europe. International Latin Dancesport is a highly technical and expressive competitive dance style that includes five iconic dances: Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive. Rooted in rhythm, precision, and performance, this style emphasizes strong body action, dynamic footwork, and a deep connection between partners. Each dance showcases unique characteristics—whether it’s the playful energy of the Cha-Cha, the passionate storytelling of the Rumba, or the fiery intensity of the Paso Doble. As a globally recognized discipline, International Latin demands both athleticism and artistry, making it a thrilling and elegant expression of movement on the dance floor.  

 

Students are invited to attend a free trial lesson for Star Academy's new Latin Dancesport and Chinese Dance classes. Beginners are welcome!
